Rick, Welcome To RR. And the BCT15 is an analog only scanner. Don't hesitate to email me if you have further questions and join us in the NC Forum! Moved to North Carolina You should have MUCH better answers in a local forum. I also recommend the following 2 sites that give a definition of Trunking: What is Trunking? Understanding Trunking Once you can wrap your brain around the basics of trunking then you can program your BCT15 to monitor analog activity in the Central NC area. The best national resource for frequency information is found at www.
Frequencies, communications systems and more! Analog Conventional 2. Analog trunking 3. Digital scanner cover all three types of systems The type of scanner needed is determine by the communications systems in use in your area.
What is an Analog Conventional Scanner? Analog conventional scanners do not pick up trunking, digital, or MHz systems.
These scanners are non digital that pick up both analog conventional and analog trunking scanning them at the same time.
Trunking is a system which multiple agencies are sharing the same system. One individual department conversation jump from one frequency to another. Most system there is one frequency called a Control Channel, this channel sounds like a buzz-saw if monitored conventional. The Control Channel is the brain of the system, assigning each user on the system a frequency when transmitting.
Site 1 - Portland - This software looks very much like a spreadsheet. You can enter the data into the appropriate fields. The other option is to leave the programming to us with our HomeTown Programming Service. Digital communications are transmitted in ones and zeros like computer binary code, or like Digital TV. Digital scanners decode both a digital signal and receive analog signal. Digital scanner cannot pick up encrypted communications, or cell phone calls.

Uniden also has a customer support phone number However, as scanner technology advances to keep up with new communications systems, scanners have become increasingly complex to set-up and program. Scanner Master is the nation's leader in scanner programming, relying on our nearly 30 years of experience in reporting on the nation's communications systems. To learn the cost of our programming either a scanner you already own or a scanner you wish to buy, use the Choose A Scanner link on this site to determine the scanner for your area.
Pricing depends on the scanner type, the number of agencies you want programmed and the complexity of the radio systems in your area. Programming generally takes one to two weeks as we often have many radios to program at one time and programming can be a very time consuming process. Scanner Master offers programming services for scanners purchased direct from us or for scanners that you already own.
Programming may include research into your local frequencies and trunking systems, conversations with you about what you would like programmed, and then the actual programming of the radio complete with frequencies, alpha tag descriptions, trunking systems, talkgroup IDs and PL tone codes for radios that accept these parameters.
Low-end radios without these features can be programmed more quickly and inexpensively. Either way the radio will be ready-to-go when you receive it. The cost for the service is based on radio used, the number of frequencies and systems being programmed, and the amount of frequency research needed. This service is for those who do not have the time to program the scanner for their area, or for those buying the scanner as a gift and who want the radio to work as soon as their friend or loved-one turns the radio on.
The service is particularly worthwhile for those who do not feel up to the technical challenge of determining the correct frequencies and understanding and programming trunked and other advanced radio systems.
Best scanner to listen to NC Viper frequencies?
The great thing about having Scanner Master do the work is that once the radio is programmed properly you may never have to touch or worry about programming again. Note: For those who already have their advanced scanner and a copy of ARC software, Scanner Master can create an ARC data file and e-mail it for programming so that you don't need to send your scanner in to have the work done.
Some people say that programming shouldn't have to cost very much. But to do it right the first time you want it properly researched and the frequencies properly entered -- specifically for the area that you want to listen to.
You don't want a general dump of frequencies for your area that's entered without any thought or check for accuracy.Forums New posts Search forums. Media New media Search media. Classifieds New listings.

Can I manually plug in the individual frequencies and then start scanning? If so, how? Reply Quote. Re:P25 Viper 14 Jan I live in Durham, and have had a Home Patrol 1 for nearly two years now. However, you should know that the VIPER system in this area was only fairly recently activated maybe in the past months. What you need to do is make sure that the VIPER P25 system is properly downloaded from the Radio Reference database using Sentinel's update program and then put into your favorites I think the default is to receive all the stations.
As you've probably realized already the P25 VIPER is a very robust database that contains dozens of, if not hundreds, of listings assigned to various agencies throughout the state of North Carolina.
It is my understanding, that not all the towers and repeaters are activated, but are slowly coming online. I know for a fact that the towers in Durham County are activated.
North Carolina, US
Unless you want the radio to search every listing on VIPER which you probably do not want because it will take some time to stop on what you really wantyou need to just include those agencies you are interested in to be included in your Favorites.
You also have to make sure that the towers repeaters in your area are also included in your VIPER list, otherwise the radio will not know which frequencies to search. All of this information is in the Radio Reference database and has to be downloaded into Sentinel. Other counties have simply chosen not to participate in the P25 system because theirs is working just fine.
But I know for a fact that the Highway Patrol is on, because I get several Highway Patrol districts on the radio from my location in Durham. By the way, it IS confusing. It took me many hours of trial and error before I got it right.
But once you do, it is quite rewarding and a very good system for listening. I just wish there were some more federal agencies signed on, but I'm sure that will come. Last Edit: 14 Jan by nyrxman.
